Session 1:

Understanding the Functional Program Narrative Process

Description:

The New Jersey DHSS requires a Functional Program Narrative be drafted and provided with all projects, and it is equally required by the 2018 and 2022 FGI Guidelines.  This presentation will guide facilities managers in how to understand the functional programming process and also how to locate and use the Center for Health Designs online toolkit.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be provided easy to understand guide for communicating an Owner’s project requirements to the entire project team.  
2. Participants will learn how to develop an effective process for defining and delivering a functional program to meet applicable regulatory requirements for design & construction.
3. Participants will gain a better understanding about how to Identify opportunities to develop a functional program to optimize a project’s design and leverage the physical environment to improve patient outcomes, staff effectiveness and sustainability.  
4. Participates will learn have to navigate available on-line resources.

Session 2:

Understanding the Approval Process & Lessons Learned for the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Submission

Description:
The presentation will focus on experiences and lessons learned related to the submission and approval process for the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The presenter will highlight common DCA comments as well as review duration, common pitfalls, oversights and documentation typically experienced with various healthcare projects. The discussion will also focus on recent review efforts related to fire alarm and fire protections. The discussion will emphasize how proactive collaboration with Facility Managers and The Design Team can provide an efficient review and project success.

Learning Objectives: 
1. Participates will gain a better understanding about the electronic submission process including the role of the Designer and Owner
2. Participants will be introduced to common coordination issues when submitting to DOH in the early phases of design and how this impacts the DCA submission and constriction schedule.
3. Participants will learn about common comments that the team typically encounters on healthcare projects 
4. Case studies will be used to provide participants with information about challenges and opportunities during a project review
