We have an exciting opportunity to participate in the AMFP North/Central NJ Half-Day Summit on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, focused on staffing in the New Jersey healthcare environment. AIA Central NJ has collaborated to offer 2 LUs!

You will hear from colleagues, end-users as well as designers and architects about the challenges of Clinical Staffing, Succession Planning in Design, Construction & Facilities, and how they are leveraging technology to bridge the gaps. The discussion also includes how healthcare design and physical space layout impacts staffing.

AIA CNJ Past President and current Board Trustee Donna Terzano, AIA, will moderate the final panel of the day, exploring facility infrastructure, operations, and staffing.

8:45am - 9:30am – Panel 1: Clinical Staffing Challenges
• Learn about the staffing challenges in facilities and how they are using technology to bridge the gaps
• Explain the types of data used in clinical staffing (e.g. HER, HRIS, scheduling systems)
• Describe key challenges in clinical staffing – including nurse shortages, shift scheduling and Burnout
• Understand how historical data can inform future staffing needs

9:35am –10:20am – Panel 2: Succession Planning for Design and Construction
• Understand the impact of staffing shortages and design for operational efficiency with fewer staff
• Understanding clinical staffing models – identify primary types of clinical staffing models (eg – team based, decentralized, centralized)
• Explain how spatial design impacts staffing efficiency and patient care delivery
• Apply design principles to support respite spaces, noise reduction, lighting quality and ergonomics

10:25am – 11:10am – Panel 3: Impact of Technology on Healthcare Staffing
• Learn about the role of technology in HC facilities and how they are leveraging with regards to staffing, construction and operations
• The use of project management platforms and BIM in coordinating healthcare construction projects
• Identity technologies used in healthcare facility O&M including loT sensors, CMMS and digital twins
• Evaluate the need for digital literacy and training among clinical professional in tech enabled environments.
